How about this for an "office"?




We are looking for an energetic, hard-working person to assist our flower farm in daily tasks on a part-time basis from March through November.  Prospect Hill is a small cut flower farm, producing over 40 types of flowers using sustainable growing practices with about an acre in production.  Now in our sixth season, we supply blooms to local florists, designers, and customers in central Virginia and at the Farmer’s Market at St. Stephen's in Richmond. Located in Louisa County, we are members of the Virginia Association for Biological Farming and the Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers.

The ideal applicant is:

  • Positive, observant, and a quick learner

  • Proactive, dependable, likes to work outside

  • Willing to work in all types of weather and get dirty

  • Able to work fast and efficiently, on a variety of tasks

  • Enjoy doing manual labor, working with your hands

  • Willing to be on your feet for extended periods of time

  • Carry out repetitive tasks and lift heavy objects

  • Interested in growing organically/sustainably

  • Enthusiastic about local flower/food movement

  • Able to commit for the entire season (March-November)

  • Farm/growing/gardening experience (preferred, but not required)

  • Available to sell a few Saturday mornings at the farmer’s market (a plus, but not required)


Duties include:

  • Soil preparation, cultivation, fertilizing

  • Clearing out finished plants/rows

  • Sowing, transplanting, and weeding

  • Assist with pest and disease control, and high tunnel management

  • Use hand tools, some small equipment and machinery as needed

  • Carry out farm maintenance tasks

  • Other duties as assigned

Part-time position approximately 16-25 hours a week, potential for increase in hours, and flexible schedule.   Pay commensurate with experience.
